We are looking for a Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our Housing Needs Service and manage council‑owned temporary accommodation for homeless households.
Responsibilities
- Day‑to‑day running of the council’s temporary accommodation.
- Ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed at sign‑up and fully explaining the conditions of occupancy to residents.
- Collecting temporary accommodation charges.
- Resolving breaches of licence conditions in accordance with council policy.
- Recommending possession action where necessary.
- Undertaking evictions in line with North Yorkshire Council policy.
- Arranging inspections of void properties, clearing, gas and electrical safety checks, repairs and re‑letting to minimise void periods and income loss.
Qualifications & Skills
- Good working knowledge of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- IT literacy.
- Safeguarding awareness.
- Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise workload.
- Initiative and effective teamwork.
Benefits
You will receive a full benefits and wellbeing package. Holiday entitlement starts at 28 days rising to 34 days (pro‑rata) after five years of continuous service, plus public holidays, and you will be entitled to join the local government pension scheme.
