About the Role

In this varied and hands‑on role, you will travel to Leicestershire County Council customer sites to help ensure that buildings are safe, secure and fully operational. Where available, an LCC vehicle will be provided; however, as this cannot be guaranteed, an essential requirement of the role is access to your own vehicle, together with a valid driving licence, MOT certificate and appropriate business insurance. You will carry out routine premises checks, undertake minor repairs to buildings, fixtures, furniture and equipment, and open and close buildings, including setting and re‑setting alarms in accordance with agreed procedures to ensure services can be delivered at the required times. The role will also involve carrying out and recording routine compliance testing appropriate to a Premises Officer post, such as fire alarm checks, emergency lighting tests, water temperature monitoring and other statutory or site‑based checks in line with relevant procedures. You will support the Facilities Management team in maintaining high standards of health and safety, liaise with external contractors to ensure compliance with relevant requirements, report defects to your line manager or the Property Helpdesk, and assist with furniture moves across LCC sites. An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

About You

  • Experience of carrying out routine premises checks and basic maintenance tasks within a building or facilities environment.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities, with the ability to maintain safe working practices and support compliance on site.
  • Practical skills to undertake minor repairs to buildings, fixtures, furniture and equipment, and to identify and report defects promptly.
  • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, customers and contractors, and work cooperatively to maintain service standards across LCC sites.
  • Willingness to assist with physical tasks, working flexibly as part of a team to meet operational needs.
  • Able to travel between sites as required.
  • Literacy & ICT skills to fill in diaries, claim forms and H&S records.

In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and to delivering accessible and inclusive services which meet the needs of all of our residents. You will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of these commitments as part of the selection process. Reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability. We are a Disability Confident Employer. This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for this role.

Flexible Working

We are open to discussions about flexible working, which may include part‑time working, job sharing, term‑time working, flexible start and finish times, and hybrid working, depending on the requirements of the role and the service.
