Position:

In this role, you will be part of the SME Underwriting team based in Glasgow. As a Risk and Underwriting Associate Analyst, your focus will be on GEH business and you will discuss the performance of your SME contracts with the respective client managers. You will support the quotes and renewals activity for the SME book of business and will identify the financial risks involved, requiring the development of a detailed understanding of every aspect of the international business unit. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate clearly, take responsibility to achieve set goals and be able to identify and analyse any existing or potential problems, adapting quickly to find a solution. You like to work in a fast paced environment and are ready to learn and develop through the wider Underwriting Team.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

  • Perform and review case-specific risk assessments within GEH

  • Responsible for terms negotiations with Sales and Client Management

  • Monitor account earnings plans to achieve growth and profitability

  • Support portfolio management by analysing performance and providing detailed feedback.

  • Support Experience Underwriters with large group cases

  • Manage complex schemes: partnerships, top-ups, combined propositions…

  • Mentorship of junior members of staff

  • Provide monthly reports to key stake holders.

Scope and Dimensions

Reports to Underwriting Senior Supervisor. Includes a knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the business. Requires co-ordination and integration with every department including:

  • Sales & Client Management

  • Finance

  • Actuarial

  • Systems

  • Legal services

  • Operational teams

Experience/Education Required

  • High level of numeracy

  • Negotiating

  • Organisational and time management skills

  • Knowledge of processes, procedures and systems

  • Good business/product knowledge

  • Influencing skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Good communication skills
