Mechanical Design Engineer

  • We are currently recruiting for an experienced

Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading aerospace engineering organisation based in Yeovil.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on innovative aerospace projects, contributing to the design and development of advanced mechanical systems within a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop concept designs supported by engineering analysis.
  • Produce detailed mechanical designs using 2D and 3D CAD.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, drawing packs, and supporting documentation.
  • Carry out tolerance analysis and process engineering changes.
  • Liaise with Production Engineering and Production Planning to ensure designs are optimised for manufacture.
  • Deliver engineering projects in line with agreed schedules and project milestones.
  • Work in accordance with engineering procedures, standards, and best practices.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum

2 years' experience in mechanical design, ideally involving precision components.

  • Experience using
  • 3D CAD , preferably

Siemens NX .

  • Competent in both

2D and 3D CAD .

  • Basic understanding of

Configuration Control .

  • Knowledge of

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) .

  • Understanding of machining, manufacturing techniques, and design for manufacture principles.
  • Knowledge of
  • Lean Manufacturing and

SIX Sigma is advantageous.

  • Strong communication skills with a customer–focused and results–driven approach.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast–paced, multi–project engineering environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred but not essential.
  • Candidates with relevant engineering experience and a strong technical background will also be considered.
  • Experience designing small, fine–tolerance mechanical components is desirable.
