This role involves supporting the design and development of electric propulsion systems for a variety of applications. It will involve integration of EV systems, as well as packaging and enclosure design for electrical, electronic and mechanical components. It will also involve design and analysis of components in support of electric motor design and development.

Requirements

  • Excellent experience of 2D and 3D design using high–end CAD tools (e.g. Catia, NX, Creo)
  • Demonstrable CAE experience (thermal, stress, structural or NVH analysis)
  • Experience of rugged design (protecting against water ingress, shock, vibration, extreme temperature)
  • Product application experience
  • Experience of the mechanical design / packaging of relevant components (e.g. power converters, inverters, electronics, electric motors, etc) OR Mechanical design of electric motor components (stator, rotor, bearing systems, etc)

As a senior engineer you will engage with customers to advise on and agree product requirements, design and develop solutions, taking designs from concept, through to prototype (sample) and even supporting volume production. You will be able to work as part of a team, owning project deliverables and work packages. Technical leadership / mentoring experience would be preferable. Having a broad appreciation of various materials, design and production techniques suitable for electric propulsion systems would be needed. The components you will be designing could be used in automotive, commercial vehicle, aerospace, marine, defence or off–highway vehicles.

Skills & Experience Required

  • A degree or higher in mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • At least 5 years of relevant industry experience designing / packaging relevant systems (e.g. high–speed electric motors, power electronics / inverters, etc) OR the design of high–speed electric motor components
  • Use of high–end CAD systems for 2D and 3D modelling coupled with proven experience with CAE analysis (thermal management, stress analysis or NVH, etc)
  • Able to apply fundamental mechanical principles to solve complex engineering problems
  • Innovative, creative, a strong communicator and able to work directly with customers
  • Full lifecycle product design experience (concept to volume production)
  • Technical leadership / mentoring experience
  • A genuine interest in electric powertrain systems

This senior mechanical design engineer position is commutable from Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry and Lutterworth. It is based onsite 4 days per week.
