Position: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Oxford (Hybrid)

Overview

My client is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its Oxford office on a hybrid working basis. This role sits within a multidisciplinary building service engineering team, delivering high‑quality electrical design solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects including commercial, residential, education, and healthcare developments. They work on commercial, residential, education, healthcare and retail and also sustainability.

This is a senior‑level position suited to an experienced engineer who can lead design delivery, and take ownership of projects from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

You will take a leading role in the delivery of electrical building services design, including:

  • Leading electrical design on projects from concept through detailed design and construction stages
  • Producing and reviewing detailed design calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
  • Coordinating with mechanical engineers, architects, structural engineers, and external stakeholders
  • Ensuring compliance with UK Building Regulations, relevant British Standards, and client requirements
  • Undertaking site inspections, technical surveys, and supporting construction phase services
  • Managing project deliverables, deadlines, and technical quality control
  • Supporting and mentoring junior and intermediate engineers within the team
  • Contributing to client meetings, design reviews, and technical presentations
  • Assisting in fee proposals, scope definition, and project planning where required

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered status (CEng) or working towards it (IET or CIBSE preferred)
  • Strong experience in electrical building services design within the UK consultancy environment
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Amtech/Trimble, Dialux/Relux, and AutoCAD (Revit experience desirable)
  • Solid understanding of UK regulations, including BS 7671 and Building Regulations Part L
  • Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines
