The Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to construction. You will work closely with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams to produce innovative, efficient and sustainable electrical building services solutions. Projects span a variety of sectors including commercial, residential, education, healthcare, public sector, leisure and industrial developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce electrical building services designs from concept through to construction issue.
- Prepare feasibility studies, design calculations, technical reports and specifications.
- Design electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms and associated building services systems.
- Undertake site surveys, inspections and condition assessments.
- Attend client, contractor and design team meetings.
- Deliver projects within agreed budgets, programmes and quality standards.
- Coordinate designs with mechanical, architectural and structural disciplines.
- Support and mentor junior engineers where required.
- Ensure designs comply with current Building Regulations, British Standards and industry best practices.
- Contribute to design reviews, quality assurance procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with fee proposals, bids and business development activities when required.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
- Previous experience within a Building Services Consultancy environment.
- Strong electrical design experience across a variety of building sectors.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience using industry–standard electrical design and calculation software.
- Good understanding of BIM Level 2 project delivery.
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, particularly Part L.
- Excellent communication and client–facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise workloads effectively.
- Working towards Chartership or already Chartered would be advantageous.
- Passion for sustainable and low–carbon building design.
