An established building services engineering consultancy is seeking an Electrical Building Services Design Engineer to join its growing design team on a permanent basis. This opportunity would suit either a recent electrical engineering graduate or a qualified electrician with apprenticeship–based training who is looking to transition into a design–focused role within the building services sector.

About the Role

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of electrical building services designs across a diverse range of projects and industry sectors. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role will involve supporting projects from initial concept and feasibility stages through to detailed design and installation information. The position offers exposure to all phases of the design process, providing valuable opportunities for professional growth, technical development, and collaboration with experienced engineers and technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing electrical building services systems, including low–voltage power distribution, lighting, small power installations, and fire and security systems.
  • Performing system calculations, equipment selection, and sizing using industry–standard software.
  • Assisting with the integration of sustainable and energy–efficient technologies into project designs.
  • Producing technical documentation including drawings, specifications, reports, and three–dimensional models.
  • Preparing electrical load assessments and supporting utility connection applications.
  • Coordinating design information with engineers and consultants from other disciplines.
  • Applying relevant standards, regulations, and industry guidance throughout the design process.
  • Attending project meetings, design reviews, and client consultations as required.
  • Supporting site surveys, inspections, and feasibility assessments.

Skills and Experience

Applicants should possess either:

  • A degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or a related discipline); or
  • A recognised electrical apprenticeship with relevant technical qualifications.

In addition, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A willingness to develop skills in specialist design software such as electrical calculation, lighting design, CAD, BIM, and modelling platforms.
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities.
