We are supporting a leading engineering consultancy looking to appoint a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Glasgow office. This is a key leadership position, offering the opportunity to take ownership of major projects, mentor engineers, and contribute to the growth of the team.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design delivery of building services projects across sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, and mixed-use.
- Take responsibility for project performance, ensuring delivery to quality, budget, and programme.
- Produce and review detailed design calculations, specifications, and drawings.
- Design systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and public health.
- Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and British Standards.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support business development, bids, and client engagement.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior or Principal Mechanical Design Engineer within building services.
- Strong technical expertise across HVAC and mechanical systems design.
- Track record of leading projects and managing teams.
- In-depth knowledge of UK regulations and industry best practice.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Qualifications & Professional Development
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Working towards or Chartered (CEng) via CIBSE or IMechE (essential).
