We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team working on the development and improvement of specialised mechanical products. This role would suit someone who enjoys varied design work, thrives in a collaborative environment, and takes pride in delivering high–quality, detail–driven engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the design and development of new products alongside maintaining and improving existing designs
- Creating and updating 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
- Preparing accurate bills of materials and ensuring documentation meets internal standards
- Managing your own design projects, ensuring work stays on schedule and within agreed parameters
- Collaborating closely with other engineers across the team to solve technical challenges
- Producing clear technical documentation, including specifications, instructions, illustrations and test procedures
- Taking part in continuous improvement activities to enhance engineering processes
- Assisting with prototype assembly and testing when required
- Occasionally visiting customers or suppliers – a full driving licence is required
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience in detailed mechanical/product design
- Some exposure to simulation tools (FEA, thermal, vibration) is desirable
- Background in precision or high–accuracy engineering is beneficial
- Understanding of designing complex mechanisms is an advantage
- Confident working independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem–solving ability with a creative and practical approach
- Excellent attention to detail and a drive for continuous improvement
- Able to manage workloads, meet deadlines and take ownership of projects
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, casting or moulding
- Experience with DFM/DFA principles
- Proficiency in 3D CAD within a manufacturing environment (SolidWorks preferred)
