Job Title:Senior / Associate Mechanical Design Engineer
Location:Bristol (Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days WFH)
Salary:Up to £75,000 (dependent on experience)
Contract Type:Permanent, Full-Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Associate Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established and highly regarded building services consultancy. This is a senior-level position offering genuine involvement in technically varied and high-profile projects across a diverse range of sectors, with a clear pathway for progression within a collaborative and ambitious team.

You will be responsible for leading the mechanical design of building services schemes from feasibility and concept through to detailed design, specification, and construction support - covering RIBA Stages 1 through to 6. The role demands both technical depth and client‑facing confidence, and sits within a consultancy that prides itself on long‑standing client relationships, innovative design, and a commitment to net zero and sustainability outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of building services installations across a variety of project types and sectors
  • Produce detailed design drawings and models using AutoCAD and Revit (BIM)
  • Undertake dynamic thermal modelling and energy analysis using IES, HAP, and TAF
  • Prepare specifications, design reports, and technical submissions
  • Manage projects through RIBA Stages 1–6, coordinating with clients, architects, structural engineers, and contractors
  • Attend design team and client meetings; provide technical advice and design leadership
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development
  • Contribute to business development activity and fee proposals
  • Ensure designs comply with current UK Building Regulations and relevant CIBSE guidance
  • Contribute to sustainable, low carbon, and energy‑efficient design solutions

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' UK-based building services mechanical design experience within a consultancy environment
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit for design and BIM coordination
  • Experienced in thermal modelling and energy analysis using IES, HAP, and TAF
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, heating, ventilation, and public health systems
  • Experience managing projects across RIBA Stages 1–6
  • Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations and relevant CIBSE guidance
  • Strong communication, report‑writing, and client‑facing skills
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards it
