About the Opportunity

One of our clients, a growing consultancy within the built environment sector, is looking to add an Assistant / Graduate Transport Planner to their expanding Transport team. This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative, commercially driven business that works across a wide range of development projects — from small residential schemes through to major urban extensions, town centre regenerations, and large mixed‑use developments. Their Transport team plays a key role in helping clients unlock the potential of sites by delivering innovative, practical transport and movement strategies that support high‑quality, sustainable places to live and work. You’ll gain exposure to a broad variety of project types while being supported in your technical and professional development.

The Role

You’ll support senior team members across multiple projects and gain hands‑on experience in all aspects of transport planning. Responsibilities typically include:

  • Supporting project teams to deliver work to a high professional standard and within agreed timescales
  • Assisting with the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and other planning submission documents
  • Preparing Travel Plans and Travel Packs and contributing ideas around sustainable transport initiatives
  • Collecting, processing, and analysing data such as traffic counts and public transport information
  • Providing day‑to‑day technical support, including assistance with design work, CAD tasks, and swept‑path analysis where required
  • Working closely with colleagues across planning and related disciplines
  • Liaising with project teams and external stakeholders, including local authority officers, and attending meetings and workshops

About You

Our client is keen to speak with candidates who have a genuine interest in transport planning and the built environment. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Around 1 year of experience in a transport planning or related role (graduate‑level candidates are also encouraged to apply)
  • A strong interest in areas such as active travel, placemaking, healthy streets, transport strategy and policy, junction design, and mitigation
  • An understanding of the UK planning system and how transport integrates into planning policy and development (e.g., NPPF, London Plan, etc.)
  • A flexible, proactive approach and a willingness to support colleagues to ensure high‑quality project delivery
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Confidence communicating clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally
  • Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, TRICS, Junctions 9, TEMPRO, GIS, and Census data (or a strong desire to develop these skills)

Why Consider This Role?

This is a chance to join a friendly, close‑knit transport team within a business known for strong staff retention, long‑term career development, and a genuinely supportive culture. The company places a real emphasis on inclusion, diversity, and sustainability, supported by internal groups focused on EDI and ESG initiatives. Team members are encouraged to get involved in charitable work, community projects, and environmental campaigns, alongside their day‑to‑day roles. You’ll be joining an organisation that invests in its people, promotes collaboration, and offers exposure to meaningful, varied work across the planning and development landscape.
