The Company
Our client is a long-established and highly respected engineering manufacturer with over 80 years of experience delivering bespoke power generation solutions across the UK and internationally. They specialise in the design, manufacture, assembly and testing of diesel generator control systems for the industrial, marine, commercial, defence and luxury yacht sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Ipswich.
The Role
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will design bespoke generator control systems and associated equipment from concept through to manufacture and testing. Projects range from simple key-start and push-button control panels through to complex multi-bay switchboards, synchronising and paralleling systems used across industrial, marine, MOD and specialist power generation applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical control systems for diesel generator applications.
- Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
- Design generator control panels, switchboards and synchronising/paralleling systems.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation.
- Work closely with manufacturing, assembly and test teams throughout each project.
- Provide technical support during design, build and commissioning.
- Ensure designs comply with customer specifications and relevant industry standards.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
About You
You will be an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in electrical control systems and control panel design. You should be confident interpreting customer specifications, producing accurate electrical designs and working collaboratively within a project team. Experience with generator control systems, marine electrical systems, industrial power generation, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, PLC-based control systems or LV distribution would be advantageous but is not essential.
