JOB PURPOSE
As the Audit Director, you will lead a multi-skilled audit team within the Global Capital Markets portfolio. You will oversee and participate in large or highly complex audits throughout all phases, including planning, execution and reporting. You will build and maintain strong professional relationships with business partners, internal colleagues and other internal and external stakeholders by providing trusted advice or assurance on governance, internal control and risk management activities. You will also be responsible for managing the team's performance and development, monitoring of key business risks and regulatory requirements, project management and leading various continuous improvement initiatives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Project management: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute risk-based audits, report audit results, and perform continuous monitoring of management's control environment. Champion the migration of best practices throughout CIBC and stay informed about regulatory developments and emerging issues affecting CIBC and Internal Audit. Effectively manage and oversee multiple audits, perform continuous monitoring activities, and participate on internal projects at different stages to ensure timely completion within prescribed timelines. Communicate regularly on progress and issues, and review audit work to ensure a high level of quality and compliance with audit standards.
- Leadership: Provide trusted and proactive advice to the audit team and business management on the design and operating effectiveness of processes and controls, ensuring that key risks and regulatory requirements relevant to the portfolio are adequately managed. Coach and develop team members to build capability, maintain a collaborative and inclusive team environment, and meet individual development goals.
- Communication: Demonstrate clear, concise and influential written and verbal communication skills when issuing audit reports, discussing audit findings, resolving conflicts or interacting with CIBC executives or other internal business partners. Develop strong internal and external relationships through ongoing communication regarding the progress of engagements and providing sound advice on risk, control and regulatory matters.
- Big picture view on the Global Capital Markets Portfolio: You are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the products and services offered to capital markets clients, including knowledge of necessary support groups, regulations, laws, emerging trends and risks.

This role will rely on strong cross-functional relationships across the organization. These relationships ensure that audits are comprehensive, relevant, and actionable.

As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- 7-10 years of progressive experience working in an internal audit function, or other related profession in the financial services sector, with a focus on Capital Markets, including relevant regulatory, legal, control, and operating environments.
- Hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, or Finance.
- Professional designation (e.g. CPA, CIA, MBA) or equivalent business experience.
- Strong audit knowledge.
- People leadership.
- Project management skills.
- Detail oriented and strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Collaborative.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
