Churchwood Forest Path AP (alternative provision), part of Churchwood Forest School CIC, is looking for dedicated and passionate Mentors to join our close-knit team supporting young people aged 11-14 in a fully-outdoor setting. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of KS3 students struggling to attend school due to SEN or SEMH needs. From our picturesque coastal woodland base, Mentors will help young people to build confidence, develop skills and foster connection in a calm, nurturing environment.

Days: 3-5 days per week
Term Time: 39 weeks
Salary: £36,000 FTE

About the Role: As a Mentor, you’ll ensure that students feel valued, safe and engaged in their personalised programmes, as well as working closely with lead staff to deliver creative and impactful learning experiences.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with children and/or young people
  • A proactive, adaptable and positive attitude
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with families, students and external agencies
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and resilience in managing challenges
  • The right to work in the UK without sponsorship

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use support- and relationship-based approaches for the social, emotional and mental health development of learners.
  • Work closely with Head Forest Mentor to ensure daily running of sessions in line with policies and procedures of Churchwood Forest Path AP.
  • Plan engaging games and activities based on the needs of the learner/s.
  • Provide excellent behaviour management support skills to aid learners who display behaviours that challenge.
  • Completing report logs as necessary – weekly and termly.
  • If working in a group environment, plan, lead and deliver inclusive and engaging group activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the team towards the development of our provision.
