The Opportunity
Churchillfield Recruitment is currently recruiting a high-caliber Project Manager on behalf of a market-leading RC Frame and Groundworks contractor. We are seeking a commercially astute Project Lead to manage a £13m heavy groundworks package within a highly restricted airside environment at a major Essex airport. This is a logistically complex civil engineering project requiring a manager who can balance operational delivery with rigorous security and commercial standards.
The Project & Role
This package involves critical infrastructure works, including:
- Civil Engineering: Deep drainage, service ducting/installations, and attenuation systems.
- Heavy Pavement: Large-scale heavy-duty pavement quality (PQ) concrete.
Future Pipeline: While this initial project is groundworks-focused, our client has a massive pipeline of RC Frame projects. We require a PM with a dual background in Groundworks and RC Frames to transition onto major structural projects following the completion of the airside works.
Commercial Responsibility ("Project Owner" Approach)
We are looking for an "old school" manager who takes full ownership of the project's financial health. You will work hand-in-glove with the Commercial Department to:
- Maximize Margins: Identify variations and ensure project profitability.
- Budget Control: Manage resources to bring the project in on (or under) budget.
- Contractual Protection: Deeply understand the contract to protect the business's commercial position.
Requirements
- Experience: Proven track record as a Project Manager on Groundworks (£10m+) and RC Frame projects.
- Qualifications: Valid Black CSCS Card and SMSTS are essential.
- Vetting: Ability to pass Airside Security Vetting (requires a checkable 5-year work history and clean criminal record).
- Commercial Acumen: Strong grasp of budget management and identifying variations.
- Education: Relevant Chartership (MCIOB or MICE) is preferred.
Whats on Offer
- Competitive Day Rate: £400 - £500 per day.
- Stability: Long-term continuity with a Tier 1 specialist contractor.
- Prestige: The opportunity to lead a high-profile infrastructure project near the M11 corridor.
Ideal Candidates
This role is perfectly situated for candidates based in Bishop's Stortford, Harlow, Chelmsford, Braintree, and the surrounding Essex/Herts areas.
