Role Overview
The Crown as Patron and the Bishop of Newcastle wish to appoint a full-time priest to be Team Rector of Willington and Priest in Charge of Wallsend St John, who will work alongside the people there to be Good News for the people of the area. The congregations are looking to continue to deepen their faith, engage with their communities and grow their participation in mission and ministry.
Key to this role is working with an energetic and good-humoured team, identifying and nurturing the mission opportunities in the new estates alongside overseeing the current work with the more established communities. The established ministry has a proven track‑record of reaching the most vulnerable in Willington Quay as well as great links with local schools through Open the Book and the Care for a Cuppa Drop‑in for older people. There are a range of different partnerships across the area, particularly ecumenically, that offer opportunities for growth.
Situated between Tynemouth on the coast and the City centre and with good transport links, the area attracts people to live here who work in Newcastle, South and North Tyneside. Is God calling you to join us - as a priest with a vision for the church as attractive, resourcing communities of hope and joy, turning outwards in mission, with a passion to see people grow in faith and confidence.
