Parish Share Officer (3 years Fixed Term) in Liverpool

Liverpool Full-Time No working from home possible

Parish Share is the way churches contribute to the shared cost of ministry across the Diocese of Liverpool. It funds clergy and enables ministry and mission across our churches and communities.

Liverpool is a generous diocese with a strong tradition of giving. However, like many organisations, we face significant financial pressures. Many of our churches serve communities facing economic challenges and are unable to contribute the full cost of the ministry they receive. Sustaining ministry across the Diocese therefore depends on the shared commitment of our churches alongside support from national church funding.

This is a significant time for Parish Share in Liverpool. Changes in both national legislation and the Diocese's approach to calculating Parish Share contributions will be introduced over the coming years. The new approach will provide greater transparency around the support received through national Low Income Communities (LInC) funding and will be phased in over a three-year period.

We are looking for someone who is energised by helping others understand and engage with giving to be our Parish Share Officer. You will play a key role in communicating these changes, helping churches understand the purpose and impact of Parish Share, and building confidence in the new approach. Through clear communication and strong relationships, you will help churches engage with both the financial realities and the missional value of Parish Share, supporting a sustainable future for ministry across the Diocese.

PUPOSE OF POST:

The Parish Share Officer will lead the coordination and delivery of the Diocese of Liverpool's Parish Share programme.

At the heart of the role is communication. The successful candidate will be able to explain clearly and confidently how Parish Share supports local ministry, why it matters, and how churches contribute to the shared mission of the Diocese. They will build positive relationships with clergy, church leaders and colleagues, helping people understand both the financial picture and the impact their contributions make.

Working across diocesan teams, the postholder will coordinate Parish Share activity, develop clear and consistent communications, and support the delivery of an effective and sustainable Parish Share process.

The role requires someone who is comfortable working with financial information and data, able to interpret and present figures in ways that are accessible and meaningful to different audiences. Through strong communication, stakeholder engagement and project management, the Parish Share Officer will help strengthen the long-term funding of ministry across the Dioceseof Liverpool.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating and delivering of a multi-year Parish Share project across the Diocese. The role will involve:

  • Establishing, coordinating, and leading a Parish Share project team bringing together colleagues from finance, communications, clergy leadership and other diocesan teams to ensure a coherent and joined-up approach.
  • Serving as a key member of the working group developing a new parish share system

Ensuring communications are tailored to different audiences, including PCCs, clergy, church officers and congregations, and providing resources that help churches communicate confidently and effectively about giving, parish share and ministry costs at a local level.
  • Acting as a principal point of contact for parishes in relation to parish share, developing constructive relationships and supporting engagement through face-to-face contact where appropriate.
  • Developing robust, effective and supportive interventions framed by our Parish Support Action Plans which, will focus relational, hands-on and strategic support for churches struggling to meet their parish share pledge.
