The Bishop of Southwark wishes to appoint an Associate Pioneer Vicar of Springfield Church, Wallington. Called to lead, pioneer and equip others? We are looking for a compassionate, courageous and creative ordained Associate Pioneer Vicar to join Springfield Church, Wallington. This is an exciting opportunity to help establish and lead a new worshipping community within our estate context, equip and develop lay leaders, and support estate partner churches to grow pioneering communities through our SPRING programme.
This part‑time (0.5) role is ideal for someone who carries both the heart of a pastor and the instinct of a pioneer — someone who is prayerful, grounded in Scripture and the life of the Church, and able to lead in uncertain and evolving contexts. You will join a dynamic and supportive team at a significant moment in our pioneering journey, helping shape both the culture and future of this work.
The Ideal Candidate
- Is a priest of associate or incumbent status in the Church of England
- Has a vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus, rooted in prayer, Scripture and the life of the Church
- Has experience of pioneering ministry or fresh expressions of church
- Has experience of preaching and pastoral ministry
- Can lead and establish new worshipping communities
- Has a heart for estate communities and a passion for helping people encounter Jesus in accessible and transformative ways
- Is able to train, develop, equip and release lay leaders and emerging pioneers locally and across South London
- Communicates effectively with people who may have little or no church background
- Can build confidence in others, releasing responsibility with high accountability and low control
- Is able to support the Pioneer Vicar with humility, initiative and a collaborative spirit
- Embodies inclusion in their ministry and working practices, creating environments where people feel trusted, valued and able to belong
- Is adaptable, curious and resilient, with the emotional maturity to lead well in uncertain and evolving contexts
About Us
Springfield Church is a growing and pioneering Church of England community based in Wallington, South London. For over thirty years we have been passionate about reaching people who might not normally connect with traditional church, and in recent years have developed a range of pioneering communities on the Roundshaw estate. We believe our God-given vision is to see thriving communities springing up, where everyone can belong and find hope in Jesus.
