This is an exciting opportunity to join Chubb’s London Aviation team as an Assistant Underwriter, supporting the underwriting of the General Aviation portfolio.
The role offers the chance to build a career in underwriting within a global organisation, working closely with experienced underwriters and wider teams to deliver excellent service to brokers and clients.
You will play an important part in the day-to-day underwriting process, helping to assess risks, support portfolio management, and ensure efficient and accurate handling of business.
This role is well suited to someone with strong numeracy, good communication skills, and a genuine interest in aviation who is keen to develop technical knowledge and grow within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the underwriting and processing of new and renewal Aviation business in line with underwriting appetite, authority limits, and business plan.
- Quote and bind risks within General Aviation underwriting guidelines and appetite.
- Assess risk information and support risk selection decisions in line with Chubb strategy and underwriting standards.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers, colleagues, and other internal stakeholders.
- Deliver premium service through accurate, timely, and professional handling of underwriting queries and policy documentation.
- Work closely with Underwriting and Operations teams to resolve outstanding queries efficiently and keep work moving.
- Track premium income bookings, investigate variances, and help ensure expected figures are met.
- Monitor aggregate exposures, assist with modelling activity, and support the management of portfolio metrics.
- Assist management with building, running, and monitoring exposure reports and using data to support decision-making.
- Contribute to broker meetings, technical presentations, and training to build product knowledge and support business development.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities where appropriate and support wider business opportunities.
- Document underwriting rationale clearly and accurately in line with company and regulatory requirements.
- Use Chubb systems and digital tools to support underwriting analysis, workflow efficiency, and reporting.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1-2 years experience in insurance, ideally within underwriting.
- Experience or genuine interest in aviation.
- Strong numeracy skills and the ability to analyse information carefully.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with others.
- Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Practical, common-sense approach to problem solving and decision-making.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond positively to new situations.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
- Competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical underwriting knowledge.

- Data or analytical experience.
- Experience using digital tools or systems to support workflow and reporting.
- Confidence contributing to presentations or meetings with brokers and internal stakeholders.
- Interest in developing knowledge of contract wording, risk selection, portfolio management, and pricing for risk over time.
