Are you an Assistant Engineer in the new homes sector ready to step up into a full Engineer role? This is a genuine progression opportunity with a leading residential developer in the North Midlands, offering greater project ownership, consultant management exposure, and involvement across the full development lifecycle.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will support new homes developments from:
- Initial site viability & technical appraisal
- Planning & technical approvals
- Detailed design coordination
- Construction phase support
You will undertake in-house civil engineering design and manage external consultants to deliver cost-effective, compliant and practical solutions. This is a hybrid role combining home, office and site working.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Appraisal & Viability
- Prepare technical site appraisals and engineering viability assessments
- Interpret geotechnical and environmental reports
- Produce initial site layouts and constraints plans
- Advise on utilities strategy and procurement
- Resolve engineering matters during planning applications
- Develop engineering designs through planning and approvals
- Manage consultants on roads, sewers, drainage, levels & foundations
- Liaise with Highways Authorities, Environment Agency and statutory bodies
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and NHBC standards
- Drive cost-effective and buildable engineering solutions
- Secure technical approvals (roads, drainage, sewerage)
- Ensure engineering information is ready prior to start on site
- Manage utilities providers at key stages
- Support foundation and remediation strategies
- Resolve construction phase engineering issues
What We're Looking For
- Currently an Assistant Engineer within housebuilding / residential development
- Experience with roads, sewers, drainage, utilities and foundations
- Exposure to planning and technical approval processes
- Ability to interpret geotechnical reports
- Working knowledge of CDM regulations
- Experience liaising with consultants and local authorities
- Ambitious and ready for increased responsibility
Technical Requirements
- Engineering degree (or equivalent)
- Working towards ICE (desirable)
- AutoCAD proficiency
- Experience with PDS, Windes or MicroDrainage
- Ability to review and manage external civil engineering designs
- Understanding of ground conditions and remediation techniques
