Chronos Energy has partnered with a leading utility infrastructure provider specialising in the development, operation and management of large heat networks across the UK. We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join the Engineering Team and play a key role in the delivery of complex projects.

You will be responsible for providing expert engineering input, managing and supervising technical teams, and coordinating the efforts of engineers assigned to the project. You will take full responsibility for the quality and effectiveness of engineering outputs, ensuring all work meets the required standards and is delivered on time.

  • Design of the trials to support project aims, analysing results and feeding information from trials into the design and delivery of subsequent trials.
  • Delivery of modelling of the technical and commercial aspects of district energy plant operations to support design and commercial decisions.
  • Monitoring of the trials and the secure recording of all data identified in the trial design.
  • Providing advice and assistance to project partners on commercial, project delivery and operational issues related to district energy design and operations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Producing reports, calculations, drawings and specifications and preparing project budgets and estimates.
  • Regular updates on project delivery and learnings from design and operation of the trials and commercial frameworks being developed to support flexibility investments for heat networks.
  • Working with the Engineering Director to ensure continual development of engineering team knowledge and expertise in flexible district energy design and operations.

Meets requirements for Professional Membership of an Appropriate Professional Institution (eg IMechE/CIBSE) to at least Associate working towards Chartered Engineering level.

Extensive experience of design and specification of a variety of District Energy (Construction and Adoption) projects at all stages of project development with multiple stakeholders and complex requirements.

Experience in the use of energy and hydraulic modelling and CAD tools.

Experience in line management and professional development of junior engineers.

Commercial awareness and knowledge of project management and contract management procedures.
