Chronos Energy are currently recruiting for a Principal Electrical Design Engineer for their client, a market leading District Heating developer in the UK. You will be responsible for the provision of design, engineering and technical input related to HV and LV electrical systems within the business to ensure the delivery of excellent district energy schemes. The Principal Engineer will be part of the Engineering team, which is responsible for provision of detailed technical and commercial services to ensure that all District Energy Assets are designed, installed, handed over/adopted and operated to meet company requirements, current legislation and relevant standards and codes of practice.
About the Role
Your key responsibilities are:
- The primary duty will be providing expert input, coordinating and taking responsibility for all electrical design and installation works on a range of projects.
- Delivery of designs and design review of electrical systems within district energy systems at all stages from inception through to commercial operation.
- Development of electrical load assessments and electrical system selection strategies.
- Supporting the commercial, project delivery and operations teams in management of client and contractor relationships.
- Undertaking site inspections, snagging and witness of commissioning for electrical assets being built ahead of adoption or handover from contractor.
- Providing advice and assistance to commercial, project delivery and operational teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Production and regular review/update of reports, calculations, drawings and specifications.
- Preparation of project budgets and estimates.
- Ensuring that all electrical system designs meet operational requirements and maximise whole life value.
- Attend site to perform installation snagging and auditing; witness testing and commissioning; and to verify installations align with specifications or provide recommendations for conformity.
- Support the identification and scoping of measures to improve the electrical efficiency of existing district energy systems.
- Review of design software used in the development for district energy design and implement standards and procedures.
- Ongoing development and optimisation of design and inspection tools for district energy design to ensure they remain fit-for-purpose and support compliance with evolving industry regulation.
- Provision of guidance to other departments on electrical aspects of district energy related activities, particularly, but not limited to design, adoption, specifications, and other technical matters.
- Regular review of technology to ensure compliance with legislation, and to reduce capital and operating costs.
- Managing the design, approvals and handover/adoption process for electrical district energy assets.
- Setting roles and priorities for Graduates, Engineers and Intermediate/Senior Engineers within the team for a specific project.
- Working with the Engineering Director to ensure continual development of engineering team knowledge and expertise in district energy design and operations.
- Supporting professional development of Graduates, Engineers and Intermediate/Senior Engineers within the team.
- Undertaking continuing professional development to maintain and enhance knowledge of evolving industry standards and codes of practice, health, safety and environmental related requirements.
- Supporting the Engineering Director in development of strategy of the Engineering team and input to strategy for the wider business.
- Promoting and enhancing the reputation of the businesses within the company and within the industry.
- Working in, and produce records as evidence of, compliance with all safety, health, environmental and quality system requirements.
- Support audit activity required to enable continued company accreditations.
- Provide accurate quality work within the department and company.
- Be readily contactable during normal hours.
- Maintain a helpful and informative work environment.
- Ensure that all relevant information is recorded accurately and submitted on time.
- Comply with the latest company procedures, legislation and industry skills on all aspects of day-to-day work.
- Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Engineering Director.
Qualifications
Professional membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g. IET) to at least Associate working towards Chartered Engineering level and/or Masters or Bachelors Honours degree in relevant engineering discipline.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience of design and specification of a variety of HV and LV electrical systems for industrial or large scale commercial projects.
- District Energy (Construction and Adoption) projects at all stages of project development with multiple stakeholders and complex requirements.
- Experience in the use of electrical system design, modelling tools and CAD.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of electrical industry standards, codes of practice, health, safety, and environmental requirements and related legislation.
- Experience in line management and professional development of junior engineers.
Preferred Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Able to produce reports, presentations and other written material to a very high standard and tailored to different audiences.
- Commercial awareness and knowledge of project management and contract management procedures.
