Chronos Energy are working with a large renewable energy company who own large low carbon heat energy infrastructure assets to recruit a Procurement Manager.

We are ideally looking for a candidate who has experience working in a large energy infrastructure O&M environment.

About the Role

The Procurement Manager will be a central driver of procurement transformation and long-term operational performance.

As the business transitions from an outsourced O&M model to a self-performing entity, this role is responsible for establishing a robust, scalable, and internally managed supply chain.

You will act as a critical commercial partner to the Operations business, governing procurement policies and driving value through strategic and tactical sourcing that is right-sized for energy infrastructure assets.

This is a hands-on role requiring data fluency, commercial acumen, and operational discipline.

You will execute the transformation roadmap, lead strategic sourcing initiatives, and ensure technical supplier compliance in a fast-paced, private equity-backed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Transformation & Governance
  • Support the procurement transformation roadmap, ensuring supply chain milestones for the O&M insourcing project are achieved.
  • Implement and refine procurement policies and standardised governance protocols to ensure control and scalability across the operational portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive \"spend cube\" to categorise expenditure, analyse transaction volumes, and identify value-creation opportunities.
  • Provide data-driven insights on procurement performance, savings delivery (outturn vs. budget), and supply chain risks to the Finance and Operations leadership teams.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including financial stability assessments of key partners and robust contingency planning for critical services and long-lead components.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
  • Lead the development and implementation of sourcing strategies for key CAPEX and OPEX spend areas (e. g., major outages, specialist engineering services, fuel supply, and consumables) to optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Execute comprehensive supplier activities, including market testing, tender evaluation, and supplier selection for high-value industrial contracts.
  • Lead the supplier qualification and onboarding process, ensuring all technical, H&S, and ESG requirements are met prior to site deployment.
  • Manage the lifecycle of critical supplier relationships, enforcing performance KPIs and driving continuous improvement through structured reviews.
  • Act as a lead commercial advisor to technical and site-level teams, ensuring maintenance strategy and CAPEX allocation are supported by robust commercial agreements.
  • Sustainability & ESG
  • Integrate carbon reduction and sustainability criteria into the supplier selection process to align with the mission.
  • Ensure supply chain adherence to ethical sourcing standards, including Modern Slavery and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Procurement or Category Management within a heavy industrial, energy, or asset-heavy infrastructure environment (PE-backed experience is an advantage).
  • Demonstrable success in delivering end-to-end tenders and leading high-stakes commercial negotiations.
  • Experience contributing to process improvement or procurement transformation (specifically transitioning models or insourcing) is highly desirable.
  • Degree educated or equivalent professional experience.
  • CIPS qualification (or working towards) is strongly preferred.
  • Required Skills
  • Strong understanding of category management principles and the end to end strategic sourcing process.
  • Proven ability to lead and execute successful tendering activities and commercial negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of commercial risk and the ability to negotiate value driven outcomes beyond just price.
  • Highly capable in data manipulation and spend analysis to support evidence based decision making.
  • Ability to act as a commercial advisor to internal teams, ensuring procurement activities support operational goals.
  • Comfortable working in a changing environment where new processes and frameworks are being established.
  • A focus on delivering measurable improvements in supply chain resilience and cost management.
  • Ability to support the implementation and adoption of digital procurement tools and P2P systems.
