Chronos Energy are recruiting for a Lead Engineer to undertake a Head of Decarbonisation role for their client, a leading name in the low carbon energy infrastructure space. In this role you will be supporting the full life cycle of projects particularly the design, construction verification and post completion savings. You will collaborate with external and internal design teams to develop buildable designs that mitigate construction and operational risks, execute energy savings and deliver solutions on time.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- End to end leadership of Investment Grade Audits (IGA), Investment Grade Proposals (IGP), and Heat Decarbonisation Plans (HDP).
- Overall responsibility for the preparation and submission of funding applications, including Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) bids.
- Strategic oversight of energy engineering inputs from concept through design, construction, and operational phases.
- Line management, development, and resourcing of energy engineering teams, including future growth planning.
- Supervision and quality assurance of preliminary and detailed energy audits, feasibility studies, energy modelling, and data analysis.
- Coordination and planning of internal and external resources to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
- Oversight of non-intrusive site audits to identify energy conservation measures including lighting, HVAC, metering, fabric, central plant, infrastructure, and renewables.
- Accountability for carbon and energy savings calculations, cost estimates, payback analysis, and financial modelling.
- Technical leadership in the development of energy engineering deliverables, reports, and client-facing documentation.
- Responsibility for engineering governance, processes, tools, templates, and quality systems.
- Senior technical liaison with clients, consultants, designers, suppliers, and contractors to resolve complex engineering and delivery challenges.
- Oversight of engineering costs, consulting, and subcontractor spend across assigned projects.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, industry frameworks, and government energy and carbon policies.
- Development of internal energy strategy, policy, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintenance and development of long-term client and partner relationships.
- Working on client sites at various locations throughout the UK as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering or related engineering discipline; MEng and Chartered Engineer status desirable.
- Professional membership with the Energy Institute or similar body.
- 10+ years’ experience within energy performance contracting, energy consulting, or related environments, including live operational sites.
- Proven leadership experience managing people, projects, and technical delivery.
- Extensive experience delivering Energy Performance Contracts, energy audits, and investment grade studies.
- Strong background in engineering design, construction, systems operation, energy modelling, and solution development.
- Comprehensive understanding of energy conservation measures across building fabric, MEP systems, central plant, infrastructure, and renewables.
- Advanced capability in energy and carbon modelling, financial analysis, and Excel-based calculations.
- Experience working within industry frameworks and public sector funding mechanisms.
- Strong commercial awareness, problem-solving capability, and ability to manage multiple complex workstreams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
