Chronos Energy are looking for an Adoption Engineer in the early stages of their career to help lead the technical assessment, due diligence and formal sign-off of heat network assets being adopted into our client's Energy portfolio. You will help ensure that every adopted network meets Ofgem’s design, build and technical assurance standards. Specify and enforce remedial works on legacy and developer-built assets prior to adoption, and certify networks as fit for operational handover.
Main Accountabilities:
- Technical Standards Implementation: Translate Ofgem’s technical assurance standards into network-specific design and build specifications; review developer and contractor designs against these specifications and reject or approve accordingly.
- Network Adoption Oversight: Carry out site-based and desktop due diligence on new-build heat, EV and PV assets ahead of adoption, identifying defects and non-conformances and instructing developers on the corrective works required before handover is accepted.
- Asset Compliance: Survey and condition-assess legacy network assets against current technical standards, quantify the upgrade or REPEX requirement for each, and produce costed compliance plans that feed into capital investment decisions.
- Stakeholder Coordination & Technical Guidance: Act as the technical authority for contractors, developers, consultants and residents throughout the adoption process – issuing technical instructions, resolving design and build disputes, and providing professional guidance to colleagues across Development and Asset Management on adoption readiness.
- Quality Assurance: Witness and sign off commissioning tests on metering, controls and plant, rejecting any installation that fails to meet adoption criteria and requiring evidenced remediation before re-test.
- Regulatory Support: Compile and present the technical evidence pack for Ofgem technical assurance audits, and act as the named technical respondent to auditor queries on adopted assets.
- Strategic Input & Influencing: Brief and advise the Energy SLT and Asset Management on compliance risk exposure across the portfolio, influencing the prioritisation of capital investment to protect the Ofgem authorisation deadline.
Decision Making Authority:
- Sole technical sign-off authority for adoption assessments – no network is adopted onto the portfolio without their certification.
- Determines, without reference to a manager, whether a network meets compliance thresholds and what upgrades are mandatory before adoption or continued operation.
- Directly influences and provides professional engineering advice to the Energy SLT and Development colleagues on capital investment priorities for compliance.
Technical Knowledge/Skills
- - Degree in engineering or relevant technical discipline, with between 0-5 years’ post-qualification experience in heat network design, commissioning or technical assurance.
- - Knowledge of district heating systems and technical standards.
- - Strong project coordination and contractor management skills.
- - Familiarity with Ofgem technical assurance requirements.
- - Demonstrated experience providing professional technical guidance and advice to non-technical colleagues, contractors and developers, and influencing decisions outside direct line authority.
- - Detail Orientation: Ensures adoption meets strict standards.
- - Influence: Advises on high-value capital programmes.
