Our client is a UK wide clothing and textile retailer with stores and distribution centres in Cardiff, Leeds, Seaham and Carlisle, and administration centres in Warrington, Cardiff, London and Carlisle. The Group has 11,000 employees.
The successful candidate will report to the Group Company Secretary and work under the direction of the Group Health & Safety Manager. The role is expected to be mobile and largely field-based to service the whole business as required. The base office will be Cardiff or Warrington, however, other locations will be considered for the right candidate.
The Health & Safety Officer will provide support, advice and training to colleagues in all areas and at all levels of the business. The role includes carrying out approximately 70 site audits per year, mainly in retail stores but also including distribution centres and office space.
This post is the first line contact with Environmental Health Officers, Fire Officers and other government agencies in the Health & Safety field. There is also a requirement to carry out post-incident/accident investigations and to assist with the review and creation of safe systems of work and risk assessments.
Previous experience in retail or distribution is preferable; however, other candidates will be considered. A minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience is preferred, or a person with retail or warehousing experience and the required Health and Safety qualifications.
Technical requirements: A sound knowledge and understanding of current health & safety legal requirements. The candidate should be a member of IOSH and hold the NEBOSH diploma or equivalent.
Competencies: The ability to communicate and negotiate with all levels of staff and management. A self-motivated individual with good report writing skills and a practical and commercial approach to applying Health and Safety legislation. You need to be comfortable and competent with training others in health and safety topics and able to deliver health and safety solutions in a commercial environment.
