C

Location: Bracknell, Berkshire - candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance

Salary: Up to £65,000

Employment: Permanent

Travel: Regular UK and international travel to live productions and events

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced OB / Live Production Engineer to join an established organisation delivering technically complex live productions and major events.

This is a hands-on field engineering position with a strong focus on video and vision systems. You will work across outside broadcasts and live events, taking responsibility for setting up, configuring, supporting and troubleshooting production systems on-site.

The role would suit an engineer who enjoys being in the field and taking technical ownership. On larger productions, you may work as part of a wider engineering team, while on smaller productions you will be expected to lead the technical delivery and work independently.

The position involves significant travel throughout the year. There will also be periods working from the Bracknell base, particularly between productions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and support video and vision systems for outside broadcasts and live productions.
  • Take technical ownership of smaller productions and work independently when required.
  • Support major productions as part of a larger OB engineering team.
  • Build and configure production systems at venues, including pitch-side and event-site setups.
  • Configure and troubleshoot cameras, monitoring, multiviewers, video routing and signal distribution.
  • Configure and support portable production systems and flypacks.
  • Work with SDI, fibre and increasingly IP/network-based production infrastructure.
  • Ensure systems are correctly tested and operational ahead of transmission.
  • Work closely with production, engineering and operational teams throughout an event.
  • Support equipment preparation, testing and configuration from the Bracknell facility between productions.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Professional experience within outside broadcast, live television, live events or a comparable high-end AV environment.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of broadcast video and vision systems.
  • Experience with cameras and associated broadcast production infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of video routing, signal flow and signal distribution.
  • Experience configuring and operating multiviewers and monitoring systems.
  • Good knowledge of SDI-based video infrastructure.
  • Strong technical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience setting up production systems on-site at venues or live events.
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for the technical delivery of a production.
  • Able to work independently and make technical decisions in time-critical environments.
  • Comfortable travelling regularly and working around the schedules associated with major live events.
  • Have a working understanding of IP and networking and be comfortable working with network-connected production equipment

The Person

Above all, we're looking for a hands-on engineer who understands how a complete live production system fits together.

You should be comfortable arriving at a venue, understanding the required setup, configuring the video infrastructure, identifying problems and taking responsibility for getting the system ready for production.

This is not a purely office-based engineering role. It is ideally suited to someone who enjoys working on-site, travelling to major productions and operating in the fast-paced environment of live events.
