The Transfer Credential Coordinator provides exceptional service and support to facilitate the admission, enrollment, and successful matriculation of new transfer, readmitted, and non-degree students. This role plays a vital part in helping Christopher Newport University students achieve their academic goals. The Coordinator oversees and helps maintain the centralized transfer process, ensuring alignment with university and state policies. They communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff to address issues related to transfer credit evaluations and produce accurate evaluation reports based on criteria outlined in the State Policy on Transfer and the University’s Undergraduate Catalog.

The Transfer Credential Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the processing of transfer, readmission, and non-degree applications. The position also manages the evaluation and processing of transfer and alternative credit, including Advanced Placement (AP), Cambridge, dual enrollment, and International Baccalaureate (IB)—ensuring all credit is accurately assessed, recorded, and posted to student records and the university’s web-based systems.

As the first point of contact at the Transfer Center, this position provides front-desk support, greeting students and responding to inquiries with professionalism and care. The Coordinator exercises strong public relations skills to address telephone, email, and in-person inquiries, including resolving complex issues related to course transferability and the transfer equivalency catalog. Additionally, this position supports the day-to-day administrative operations of the department and must demonstrate exceptional customer service skills. This includes offering information, directions, and referrals to students and visitors while interpreting and communicating complex university policies and federal regulations such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience that equates to a high school diploma
  • Experience: Customer service and/or public relations experience
  • Experience working with confidential or classified information
  • Demonstrated experience with spreadsheet and word processing software

Salary Information:

Starting at $33,279 Commensurate with Education and Experience

This position includes Commonwealth of Virginia and Christopher Newport University employee benefits. CNU offers a comprehensive benefits package to include retirement plans, medical, dental, vision, and a variety of other options. Conditions of Employment: This is a classified position. New and returning classified employees are required to complete a 12-month probationary period. Selected candidate must attend a 2-day New Employee Orientation Program.
