Chief Objective of Position: The Student Success Coordinator will support the University’s student success initiatives by providing a variety of services and programs targeted at creating and maintaining a supportive learning environment for undergraduate students to improve retention, completion, and post-graduation outcomes.
Work Tasks:
- Assists with creation, implementation, and maintenance of a variety of student success orientation programs and support services for all undergraduate students.
- Assists with the instructional component of college transition courses, COLL 140: The Transitional Learner and COLL 150: The Intentional Learner, on an as-needed basis.
- Researches, develops, assesses, and implements best practices in student success support services and programs for undergraduate college students.
- Assists with various functions and activities associated with orientation programs for new college freshmen and transfer students.
- Provides support and programming for the Community Captains and Hampton Captains Programs.
- Maintains a caseload of undergraduate students, conducting individual meetings and creating personal action plans for student success.
- Monitors the progress of students identified as “at risk” and develops intervention plans based on individual needs.
- Maintains “drop in” hours for students needing immediate assistance.
- Develops, implements, and conducts workshops, programs, and intervention strategies to support undergraduate student success.
- Participates in the Division’s “recruit back” program to encourage re-enrollment of students who have stopped out.
- Develops, implements, and assesses programs for special undergraduate populations.
- Maintains detailed records of meetings with students and attendance at workshops and events.
- Stays current on student success literature and participates in professional development opportunities.
- Assists the Director with the administration of various assessments as needed.
- Assists the Director with marketing for the Center for Student Success and related programs.
- Serves as one of the Center’s representatives at admission-related events.
- Assists in planning and supporting events related to student success initiatives.
- Develops and maintains partnerships across campus communities.
- Acts as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and a responsible employee regarding sexual violence reporting.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or university senior leadership.

- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to create and maintain relationships and build trust.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to quickly master a variety of computer applications.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or individually.
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend programs and events.
Required Education: Masters Degree or a Bachelor’s degree with experience that equates to an advanced degree.
Experience Required: Experience working with undergraduate college students in a mentoring, coaching, or advising capacity.
Salary Information: Starting at $50,887, commensurate with Education and Experience.
