Chief Objective of Position: The University Fellow supports CNU by welcoming, orienting, transitioning, and engaging new students. The Fellow conducts recruitment travel, interviews prospective students, gives campus presentations, and assists with Admission Officer duties—including application file review, family counseling, processing, and event participation. Creative solutions to enhance the student experience are encouraged. The appointment is generally one year, extendable as needed.

Work Tasks:

  • Carry out tasks supporting new student recruitment initiatives as assigned by the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, Director of Undergraduate Admission, and other senior admission staff.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective students through travel recruitment visits and phone calls, and via letters, emails, blogs, chats, virtual fairs, and other multimedia venues.
  • Provide effective communication with administrators, support staff, faculty, students, alumni, and community.
  • Interview prospective students and provide insights to help them evaluate CNU, including rating them for holistic admission review.
  • Represent CNU at college fairs, high schools, and on- and off-campus recruitment events.
  • Conduct persuasive information sessions and presentations to prospective students and families about CNU.
  • Research, evaluate, and suggest innovative ideas for recruitment, enrollment, retention, student success, and engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with university-wide programs such as Orientation, Move-In, Freshman Reception, Commencement, and presidential events.
  • Promote CNU’s mission and adhere to departmental policies, supporting additional university programs such as Signing Day, Senior Week, and admission events.
  • Exercise responsibilities as a “responsible employee” involved in sexual violence reporting.
  • Maintain positive customer service and professional relations with all constituencies, embodying the “Student’s First” value.
  • Review and communicate safety issues to ensure a safe workplace.
  • Follow workplace safety regulations and participate in accident investigations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Must be a December 2025 or May 2026 graduate of Christopher Newport University.

Experience: Successful candidate will have significant and active engagement in CNU’s co-curricular and academic life, including faculty, administration, and student involvement as well as demonstrated leadership experience. Preference for candidates with:

  • Prior experience and involvement with extracurricular activities.
  • Experience in a task-oriented business setting, meeting deadlines with high quality work.
  • Experience in customer service and/or public speaking.

Salary Information: Starting at $45,205, commensurate with education and experience.
