Why This Role Matters The Intern for Private & Iconic Collections will provide day-to-day support across the department, reporting directly to the two Senior Sale Coordinators. This role is ideal for someone who has a strong interest in the Private and Iconic Collections department and who can show good organisation and interpersonal skills. It may also involve providing additional support to Estates, Appraisals and Valuations during busier periods. This role will be based in the office and will not be hybrid.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Administrative support
- Supporting the Senior Sale Coordinators in the day-to-day running of the department and assisting with set daily, weekly and monthly administrative tasks.
- Assisting with pre-sale administrative checks and due diligence on Christie’s systems, notably JDE and Canvas.
- Arranging inbound and outbound deliveries for the department, such as stationery supplies and catalogues.
- Organising binding of catalogues and other documentation.
- Scanning and printing duties and ensuring the printer is ready to use i.e. checking toner, paper etc.
- Maintaining stationery supplies in the department.
- Participating in hand-carry training and assisting with off-site low-value hand-carry deliveries to third parties.
- Tracking competitor sales, making flash reports of results and updating market share document.
- Any other tasks required as and when they arise.
- Assisting with library and archival research which sometimes involves travelling off-site in London.
- Researching past auction prices, scanning catalogue pages and conducting research in the Christie’s archive.
- Overseeing upkeep of the departmental libraries and offices.
- Finding comparative images to use in catalogues, scanning, downloading and uploading the images and securing the copyright.
- Proofreading text, fact sheets and lot cards for upcoming sales.
- Occasional visits to the Christie’s warehouse to see lots and support specialists in their work.
- Managing the sale preparation checklist for the saleroom view setup.
- Checking in lots on a spreadsheet as it arrives in the sale room for the view, noting any condition problems and making sure keys/parts are present.
- Ensuring the saleroom view is exceptionally presented; putting up all lot cards, tying on lot tags with ribbon, checking no rubbish is left out, flowers aren’t wilted etc.
- Downloading and organising lot folders, fact sheets, taking multiple condition photos of all lots in the saleroom, formatting and uploading in the folders.
- Printing condition reports, sale room notices and preparing the saleroom for bidding.
- Running errands, answering phones and being a point of contact for the department whilst the team is bidding in the sale.
What you’ll bring to the team:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong writing skills, including excellent grammar (for proofing).
- Strong time management and task efficiency, as often working independently.
- Ability to multitask and manage numerous requests, tasks and projects at once.
- A self-motivated individual who takes initiative and is a proactive member of the team.
- Genuine interest and knowledge in collections, decorative arts and popular culture, with the ability to carry out strong and detailed research in these areas.
- History of Art or other relevant degree / industry experience.
- Previous work experience within the Art Sector is preferred but not essential.
- Advanced IT skills with familiarity of all Microsoft packages.
