Why This Role Matters
The Object Intelligence Researcher will be responsible for providing comprehensive research on/updating digital records of high-value works of art by consolidating information from internal and external sources. This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and knowledge of Impressionist and Modern Art. The ability to successfully analyze a high volume of data and complete complex tasks accurately and with minimal oversight is essential. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and experienced in database management and/or archival practices.
This role will report to the Global Head of Client and Object Intelligence with a dotted line structure to the Client Strategy Director, 20th and 21st Century Art in London ensuring continuity across Client Strategy and Object Intelligence projects.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Gather in-depth intelligence on artworks using internal and external sources.
- Partner with the Client Strategy Director, 20th and 21st Century Art on projects, client and object reviews and ongoing strategic work across the cluster.
- Partner with business getters to ensure effective sourcing of objects for auction.
- Review, input and consolidate object-related data, continually enhancing Christie’s object database with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Create bespoke reports on objects and artists from Christie’s systems to support Specialists’ sourcing and selling efforts.
- Prepare and present post-auction debriefs, with a focus on competitive sales.
- Monitor and capture high-end market activity at exhibitions, art fairs and galleries, developing knowledge of competitive landscape in the Impressionist and Modern Art market.
- Identify, document, and collate full object research along with complete market and ownership histories of all high value work using catalogue raisonnés and relevant databases to research provenance of works of art.
- Act as the loan request representative for EMEA by locating artworks requested for loans and exhibitions.
- Become an expert and champion in Christie’s various data systems: Object Finder and Salesforce.
- Provide support to Department Head, Heads of Sale, Client Strategy Director, and Business Director, as required.
- Ensure that all client and object information is logged and maintained in Object Finder, Salesforce and other systems where appropriate.
- Track consignment activity at competitors; partner with business getters to drive a strategy to prevent further lost business.
What you’ll bring to the team
- Bachelor’s degree (as a minimum) in relevant subject.
- Demonstrable experience in the commercial art market with proven experience of manipulating and analysing large transactional data sets.
- Knowledge of and interest in Impressionist and Modern Art is essential.
- Strong and solid understanding of the auction process.
- Meticulous attention to detail with strong accuracy and analytical skills and demonstrably business process driven.
- Ability to manage multiple long- and short-term projects.
- Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
- Good communicator – verbal and written.
- Enthusiastic approach to continuous improvement and best practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively and confident in presenting intelligence and analysis clearly and credibly to departmental leadership.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy.
- Digitally fluent, with a strong track record of rapidly learning emerging technologies; advanced user of Excel and data systems.
