Why This Role Matters
The successful candidate will provide day-to-day support to the Modern British and Irish Art Department in London, with a particular focus on research. They will work closely with the Specialist team in the preparation of cataloguing, hilling and pricing sessions, in addition to providing support to the wider team and the Sale Coordinator.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Conduct in depth research on works which will be offered for sale, both at auction and privately.
- Write catalogue entries, where appropriate.
- Assist the specialist team in researching property for valuations and pricing sessions.
- Conduct research at external libraries such as the Tate Library, British Library and National Art Library.
- Assist Senior Specialists with proposals, where appropriate, conducting market research.
- Liaison with internal departments, including Photography, Valuations and other Specialist Departments.
- Assist the Sale Coordinator with general administration and logistics.
- Maintain library so it remains organised, re-shelving any books that are left out at the end of each day and ordering new catalogues so that it remains up to date.
- Respond to image and factsheet requests during sale week, assisting the specialist team and with client requests.
- Prepare factsheets, images, lot cards and other sale materials for all lots being offered for sale.
- Responsible for collecting and distributing post, arranging couriers and sending out catalogues.
- Maintain stock of stationery supplies in the department.
- Liaise with IT and Facilities to resolve any issues with office equipment.
- Overseeing and managing people on Work Experience placements with the department.
What you’ll bring to the team
- Keen interest/knowledge of Modern British and Irish Art.
- Strong follow-up skills with attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritise.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication.
- Good research and writing skills, experience with Research Libraries is desirable.
- Good team worker and willingness to help out when needed.
- Hard working.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to demonstrate client facing experience.
- Strong IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (mainly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to learn Christie’s systems including Canvas, JDE, intranet and website.
