We love children, we love families, and we want them to know Jesus.
St Luke's is a warm, informal church family of around 150 people in the heart of St Albans, inclusive evangelical with band-led worship, Bible teaching and prayer ministry. We have a lovely group of children, a dedicated volunteer team, unusually strong links with four local primary schools, and a church family that genuinely wants to see children and families flourish. Now we want to see where God might take us next.
The role
We're not looking for someone simply to run a programme. We're looking for a pastor who will love our children, champion our families and help us imagine what God could do through them. You will:
- Pastor, disciple and love our 3-11s, creating space for children to encounter God for themselves
- Build relationships with parents and carers and help them nurture faith at home
- Bring vision and energy to Sunday Kids Church and develop a new monthly family event
- Depending on your hours and gifts, pioneer new work such as schools ministry, toddler group, after-school club, holiday clubs or a new service for children and families
Who we're looking for
Someone with a vibrant, mature Christian faith and a real heart for children and families; lots of experience, ideally in a church context; the confidence to pioneer new things and enthuse others; great organisational skills; and a desire to become part of our church family.
We're also an inclusive evangelical church. We have always welcomed the full ministry of women, we have LGBTQ+ people at all levels of church leadership, and we are on a journey together to fully include and welcome people from all backgrounds. We'd love our new Children & Families Pastor to share that heart, so that every family can know they belong here.
The practical stuff
- Salary: Β£28,000-Β£32,000 per annum depending on experience (pro rata if part time)
- Hours: Full time (35 hours per week, including Sundays), but we warmly welcome applications from people looking to work 0.6-1.0 FTE
- Contract: New, permanent post reporting to the vicar, with a three-month probationary period
- Benefits: 6 weeks' paid leave plus bank holidays, travel expenses, and the option of the Church of England pension scheme
- Closing date: 20 January 2027 (early applications encouraged, as we may appoint before the closing date)
Subject to an Enhanced DBS check and references. This post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the postholder is a Christian (Equality Act 2010).
