The Christchurch City Council Parks Unit is looking for new members for its Residential Red Zone team. If you are passionate about promoting indigenous biodiversity and developing exceptional green spaces, we want you to be part of our dedicated team.

The Parks Unit within the Christchurch City Council has an exciting future ahead as it relays the foundations of a world-class environment for future generations, much as the founding residents of this City did to create the remarkable parks network we enjoy today.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

As a Ranger on our team you\’ll leverage your interests and experience in indigenous biodiversity and the natural environment to help maintain and enhance the values of the previously Red‑Zoned properties. You will be delivering a wide range of maintenance, upkeep, and improvements to Christchurch City\’s Residential Red Zone Parks. Working in this space requires a passion for conservation and ecological restoration, a high level of fitness for outdoor work, and experience in controlling a wide range of animal and plant pests. Knowledge in botany or horticulture is desirable. As is experience with farm maintenance such as using machinery and tools, installing irrigation, and maintaining fences is also desirable. You\’ll be confident in your ability to work in small teams, have a high regard for health and safety, communicate and take action where required. Being personable and approachable towards the wider community and willing to engage in community organised events is also important.

Hours of work: 37.5–40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (with occasional weekend work) between 7am and 5pm.

Position: Fixed Term, ending July 2026.

Location: This position is primarily based at Pages Road Parks Depot.

Salary: The hourly rate for this position goes from $32.52 to $36.13. Starting rates will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
