We are currently expanding our team in Baldock and are recruiting a Project Architect who is looking for a new and exciting opportunity. You will be responsible for the design, coordination and delivery of projects across multiple sectors, with a particular emphasis on client-facing leadership and technical excellence. You will manage design teams, liaise with consultants and contractors, and ensure projects meet the highest standards of quality, compliance and efficiency. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative team player, with industry experience to join our busy and expanding team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Delivery: Lead projects from concept through to completion (RIBA Stages 0–7). Develop design proposals, feasibility studies, planning submissions, Building Regulations packages and technical drawings. Ensure design intent is maintained throughout technical stages and construction. Coordinate design information across disciplines, including structural, M&E, planning and cost consultants.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, attending meetings and presenting design proposals. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors and external partners. Understand commercial priorities and sector-specific requirements (e.g., retail rollout programmes, industrial unit standards, residential compliance).
- Technical & Regulatory Compliance: Oversee the preparation of detailed technical drawings and specifications in line with UK Building Regulations, CDM requirements and sector standards. Undertake site inspections, produce reports, and monitor construction progress. Ensure quality, safety, sustainability and legislative compliance across all work streams. Mentor team members and support their professional development. Manage internal resources, workflows and deadlines. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated solutions. Preparing and reviewing architectural drawings and specifications.
Skills and Experience:
- ARB-registered Architect with demonstrable UK practice experience.
- Proven track record delivering projects in at least one of the practice’s core sectors (retail, industrial or residential).
- Strong technical knowledge and experience producing working drawings and specification packages.
- Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience with retail rollouts, industrial estates or multi-unit residential schemes.
- Understanding of modern methods of construction (MMC), sustainability standards, and BREEAM/Part L requirements.
- Experience managing planning applications and liaising with local authorities.
