This is a busy frontline service where you’ll work as part of a rota, depending on service needs, so flexibility and teamwork are essential. Working closely with colleagues, you’ll play a key role in delivering a consistent, high-quality service and a positive experience for every customer. This is a great opportunity for development and could provide a first step into a career in housing. It may also be well suited as a secondment for the right person.

  • Managing Select Move applications from start to finish, making sure they are assessed accurately and without delay.
  • Reviewing evidence and making decisions on housing applications in line with policy.
  • Speaking to customers every day, by phone, email and face to face, helping them understand their options.
  • Attending drop‑in sessions as and when required where residents can get advice and guidance.
  • Working with people who may be vulnerable or under pressure and handling those situations with care and professionalism.
  • Keeping records up to date and making sure information is clear and accurate.
  • Supporting wider teamwork, including responding to enquiries from councillors and MPs when needed.

Who we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in doing a good job, and is keen to make a real difference. You’ll bring a positive, can‑do approach and be someone who is comfortable working in busy frontline service; your mindset, work ethic, and how you interact with people are what will make the difference.

You will have:

  • Experience and confidence in dealing with customers, including situations where people may be anxious or frustrated, while maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • The ability to follow guidance and procedures, with a proactive approach and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a busy workload without losing attention to detail.
  • Clear and natural communication skills, with the ability to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Confidence in handling sensitive conversations and staying calm and professional under pressure.
  • A willingness to learn and quickly take on new information.
  • Comfortable using systems and maintaining accurate, up to date records.

Other requirements:

Successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check (applied and paid for by the Council).

Our Benefits:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (and Christmas shutdown)
  • Hybrid/agile working from day one
  • Local Government pension
  • Healthcare Cash Plan for cash back on health treatments
  • Cashback website access for savings on brands you love
  • Volunteering days
  • Free parking
