We are looking to recruit a Building Control Officer / Senior Building Control Officer to join our shared Building Control Service operating across Chorley and South Ribble Councils. This is an excellent opportunity for a building control professional to work across a diverse range of developments, with clear scope for progression within a recognised career grade structure. You will play a key role in delivering a high quality, customer focused building control service, supporting safe, compliant and well designed development across both boroughs.
Responsibilities
- Carry out site inspections and plan checking to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
- Manage a caseload covering domestic and commercial developments, including more complex schemes depending on registration class.
- Provide expert advice to applicants, agents, contractors and colleagues.
- Undertake enforcement action where unauthorised or non compliant work is identified.
- Liaise with partner organisations including the Fire & Rescue Service, particularly in relation to higher risk and non domestic buildings.
- Maintain accurate records in line with Operational Standards Rules and legislative requirements.
- Support the development of colleagues and contribute positively to the shared service.
At the higher grade (Level 14), the role also includes line management responsibilities and involvement in more complex and high risk building control work.
Qualifications
- Level 11: Building Safety Regulator registration at minimum Class 2D. A degree level building control qualification or equivalent experience. Experience across the full range of building control functions. Strong knowledge of building control legislation and practice. Excellent communication, decision making and customer service skills. The ability to travel across the boroughs and undertake site inspections safely.
- Level 14: Building Safety Regulator registration at minimum Class 2F. Extensive experience dealing with complex and non standard buildings. The ability to manage, mentor and develop staff. A proactive approach to service improvement and leadership.
Other Requirements
This role requires some travel around our boroughs. You should have a valid driving licence or the equivalent mobility.
