Location: Bengal Street Depot, Chorley

Contract: Full time (35.25 hours per week) / Fixed Term Contract (2 year contract)

Salary: £39,862 - £40,777

We are looking for a Grounds Maintenance Manager to join our Streetscene team based in Chorley. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop their skills, grow as a leader, and make a positive impact on the local community.

In this role, you will lead and motivate a dedicated team responsible for maintaining Chorley's parks, open spaces, and streets. You will help ensure that these areas remain clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors alike, while delivering high standards of service and fostering a culture of pride and professionalism within your team.

What you’ll be getting up to

  • Undertake the daily supervision and line management of operational teams, following Council policies and processes. Co-ordinate the activity of the teams, ensuring that high standards and productivity are maintained.
  • Ensure arrangements are in place to effectively manage proper use and maintenance of all work equipment used by your teams.
  • Maintain operational team compliance with health and safety standards ensuring that activities are effectively risk assessed and incidents are reported and investigated.
  • To assist with the effective day to day operation of the depot and the waste and Streetscene fleet.
  • Participate in the council’s emergency planning response including participating the Tactical officer on call rota.
  • To assist in the successful delivery of strategic projects to ensure digital systems are effectively used to improve services.
  • Support improvements and implementation of new systems and ways of working, demonstrating role model behaviour.
  • Ensure that high levels of customer service are embedded throughout the service

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality grounds maintenance services and leading teams to achieve exceptional standards.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have proven experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support, and develop teams.
  • Have experience planning, organising, and prioritising workloads to ensure services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
  • Have experience and knowledge in using Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel and Outlook) and digital systems for monitoring and recording scheduled work
  • Be committed to maintaining high standards across parks, open spaces, sports facilities, cemeteries, and the wider public realm.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to build positive relationships with colleagues, contractors, elected members, and members of the public.
  • Be proactive in identifying opportunities for service improvement and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Have a sound understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice within grounds maintenance operations.
  • Be able to manage budgets, resources, and equipment effectively.
  • Demonstrate a strong customer focus and a commitment to delivering excellent services for residents and visitors.

Otherrequirements

  • This role requires some travel around our boroughs. You should have a valid driving licence or the equivalent mobility.
