We are currently seeking an Apprentice Operative to join our South West and Wales Operations Team based at our Cricklade site. At Tarmac, Operatives are the heartbeat of our business – helping to manufacture the essential materials that shape roads, buildings, and infrastructure across the country. As an Apprentice Operative, you'll be part of a team that works with purpose, pride, and precision, learning the ropes and building a career from the ground up. No prior experience is required. We welcome people from all backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Operate production equipment such as cranes, forklifts and mobile or fixed plant systems.
- Carry out basic maintenance and inspections to keep equipment running smoothly.
- Support a safe working environment and uphold high safety standards.
- Act as a role model for health and safety and look out for yourself and your team.
- Work collaboratively to drive continuous improvement and strong team communication.
- Take pride in workmanship and be determined to succeed.
Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at pass grade, with support available to gain the qualifications needed as part of the apprenticeship.
- Ability to travel to college.

Training and Development
Apprenticeships at Tarmac provide hands‑on experience and a recognised qualification (Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator – Level 2 Apprenticeship). The course will be delivered in block release with accommodation and travel expenses covered. The apprenticeship will be based at the National Skills and Safety Park in Macclesfield, NG20 9JF.
