Job Overview: A boy in the HU7 area who loves ice-skating and trampoline parks requires support for 4 hours per week during school holidays only. He is non-verbal, wheelchair bound, and sensitive to noise. He loves to be pushed on the ice, enjoys quiet SEN sessions at trampoline parks, and likes being chauffeured. He also loves water play but hasn’t learned to swim. He can become distressed for unknown reasons and self-regulates with a weighted jacket. He is a happy boy when he can be safely guided around the community, allowing his mother time to tidy or take a coffee without noisy household activities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide personal care including toilet use, dressing and undressing.
- Assist the boy to get out and about in the community, supporting his mobility in wheelchair or runner form.
- Support communication, establishing rapport to understand his wants and needs.
- Maintain a safe environment, stepping back when unknown distress occurs and supporting self-regulation with weighted jacket.
- Work with the mother to ensure noise sensitivity is respected and that domestic tasks do not disturb the boy.
Requirements:
- Experience working with non-verbal or physically vulnerable children.
- Patience and ability to manage a child who is terrified of small children and small dogs.
- Good communication skills to establish a trusting relationship.
- Willingness to travel in wheelchair or use runner form to support the boy’s movement.
