D&T Technician - Woodwork
Location: Wakefield
We are seeking a practical, organised and safety-conscious Design and Technology Technician to support a D&T department in a secondary school in Wakefield. This role would suit someone confident working with wood and woodworking machinery, with the ability to help maintain a safe, well-equipped and inspiring workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare wood, materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons.
- Safely operate, maintain and monitor woodworking machinery and hand tools.
- Support teaching staff and pupils during practical activities.
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and safety checks.
- Manage stock levels and order materials when required.
- Keep workshops, preparation rooms and storage areas clean and organised.
- Follow health and safety procedures, including COSHH and risk assessments.
- Assist with displays, projects and the development of practical resources.
Practical woodworking experience andThe Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience as a D&T Technician is desirable
- Experience working in a school or workshop environment would be beneficial
- A relevant Design & Technology qualification or strong D&T knowledge
- Good organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- An understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures
- A proactive, dependable and flexible approach
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
