Choice Teachers are currently working with a secondary school in Harrow who are seeking an experienced and ambitious Head of Biology, Biology Teacher, or Science Teacher to join their team on a part-time basis from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Biology Teacher to lead the Biology department whilst teaching Biology across KS3, KS4 and KS5. The role is available for three days per week – Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and is initially for the Autumn Term.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Biology curriculum, supporting staff, driving student achievement, and maintaining high standards of teaching and learning across the department.

About the Role – Head of Biology

  • Lead the Biology department and support curriculum development
  • Teach Biology across KS3, KS4 and KS5
  • Monitor student progress and raise attainment
  • Support the development of schemes of work and teaching resources
  • Lead assessment, intervention and examination preparation within Biology
  • Support and develop colleagues within the department
  • Ensure high standards of teaching, learning and achievement
  • Promote a positive and engaging learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification
  • Have experience teaching Biology across KS3, KS4 and KS5
  • Have strong subject knowledge and a passion for Science education
  • Have previous leadership experience or experience leading aspects of a department
  • Be able to inspire both students and colleagues
  • Have strong organisational and communication skills
  • Be committed to raising standards and improving outcomes

Additional Information

  • Part-time role – Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
  • Attendance required on Monday staff training sessions where applicable
  • Opportunity to lead an established Biology department
