Choice Home Tutoring Manchester North & City Centre is looking for an experienced 11+ tutor to support a Year 5 pupil in Prestwich with preparation for grammar school entrance examinations. This is an excellent opportunity for a tutor who already understands the demands of 11+ preparation and enjoys working one-to-one with children to build both academic ability and confidence.

The pupil is beginning their 11+ preparation ahead of the coming academic year, and we are particularly interested in tutors who can provide consistent, longer-term support throughout the preparation period.

The role

You will provide personalised 11+ tuition covering areas such as:

  • Maths
  • English comprehension
  • Verbal reasoning
  • Non-verbal reasoning
  • Vocabulary and literacy skills
  • Exam technique, timing and question strategy
  • Practice papers and mock-style assessment

You will identify gaps in the pupil’s knowledge, plan appropriate sessions and adapt tuition as the pupil progresses. The successful tutor should also be comfortable providing clear feedback on progress and working collaboratively with the family.

We would particularly like to hear from you if you:

  • Have previous experience preparing children for the 11+
  • Have strong knowledge of grammar-school entrance examinations and question styles
  • Have experience preparing pupils for Trafford/Greater Manchester grammar-school entrance tests, particularly the Altrincham-area grammar schools
  • Can confidently teach Maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning at 11+ level
  • Understand how to develop exam technique as well as subject knowledge
  • Are patient, encouraging and able to build confidence in a Year 5 learner
  • Can commit consistently throughout the academic year

Qualified teachers are very welcome to apply, but formal teaching qualifications are not essential where applicants can demonstrate strong, relevant 11+ tutoring experience.
