Your new team

This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers, our 1,600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future, as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.

The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is delivered. In addition, Operations play a very active role in Innovation, Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.

The Bottling Operations and Warehousing teams are based across three factories at our Kilmalid Campus in Dumbarton. The site produces over 20 million cases of flagship brands every year such as Beefeater, Glen Livet, Chivas and Ballantine’s, the focus on quality is paramount. In addition to Quality focus, we put Safety First above anything else whilst we deliver our customer’s expectations and business targets in efficiency and cost. Finally, people are at the heart of what we do we are passionate about delivering our results with our teams on the journey.

Your unique contribution

The role of the Technical Team Leader is to be responsible for a team of Multi-Skilled Technicians to support, maintain and repair the plant and equipment to the highest standard ensuring that it is compliant with all relevant and external standards.

One role will be based in our Clyde factory providing support with regards to our bottling lines and related equipment, the other will be working within our Warehouse, providing technical support with equipment there such as cranes.

You will have five main areas of responsibility:

Safety:

  • Take responsibility for ensuring compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental, Product Integrity, Quality and Risk Management Engineering requirements.
  • Proactively promote and pursue a reduction in accident and incident frequency rates.
  • Undertake audits to promote and ensure compliance with agreed standards and safe ways of working.
  • Ensure all statutory obligations are planned and implemented through Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) hazardous area systems.

Quality:

  • Be responsible for the upkeep of plant and equipment to ensure departmental quality standards are maintained and ensuring all internal company quality checks relating to engineering within your remit are completed and recorded.
  • Fulfil the requirements for lean manufacturing, implementing and driving Asset Care principles and ways of working.
  • Continually review and administer engineering systems, procedures and maintenance practices in support of your area of responsibility to maintain and improve quality.
  • Ensure the availability of accurate and clear data for reporting and that all appropriate documentation is available, used and kept up to date.
  • Ensure that critical spares availability and routine requirements are identified, communicated and available.

Cost:

  • Ensure that M/E and equipment reliability is integrated into the engineering activity, understood and focussed on.
  • Provision, management and control of Revenue and Capex budgets for your area of responsibility and subsequent management of them.
  • Deliver plant downtime and availability targets.

Delivery:

  • Provide front line manufacturing technical leadership to significantly improve performance, Establish Work Ethics, Workmanship and Housekeeping standards in line with a flagship site within a World Class Manufacturing environment
  • Take ownership and meet targets for effective Planned Preventive Maintenance, Corrective Repair, Project related work, Continuous Improvement, Equipment Modification Overhaul and Replacement and other initiatives in support of the manufacturing excellence
  • Improve engineering effectiveness through the introduction of key performance indicators, improvement plans including but not limited to the following aspects of performance, identification of constraints, downtime, major downtime, planned maintenance, root cause analysis, start-ups, and lubrication
  • Ensure Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) use is fully understood and in use by the teams to provide appropriate feedback and measures of Engineering Effectiveness and Efficiency (personnel and equipment)
  • Develop your area of responsibility toward an Asset Management approach to Plant and Equipment within Engineering

Engagement:

  • Lead, manage and develop technicians and operators to deliver a step change in performance
  • Support development of personnel and technical training needs against the competence models

Who you’ll be working with

Internally, you’ll collaborate with all areas of Manufacturing, including Bottling, Vatting, Quality, Health and Safety and New Product Development as well as other functions such as HR and Finance.

Externally, you will collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure delivery of services to the highest standard.
