About the role
We now have an exciting new opportunity for a Lab Analyst to undertake core analytical processes within the laboratory, as well as providing investigative support to malt distilleries and bulk operations. Our Glen Keith Technical Centre supports key customers within our Production team in ensuring the quality of raw materials, in-process production materials and spirit meet the required standards. The team are based at our laboratory facility at our Glen Keith site and are responsible for performing a range of analyses according to business needs.
What you will do
- Sample Analysis – to work with the production and bulk operations teams to ensure appropriate samples are taken, analysed and reported including providing advice to operations management where required. You will book samples into the laboratory LIMS system, prepare and analyse samples using a substantial number of verified analytical methods and arrange safe disposal post analysis.
- Service Quality – to plan and prioritise your own workload ensuring all analytical activities are performed efficiently and effectively as guided by the Production Technical Lead Specialist & Co‑ordinator. You will ensure that the quality of the analyses performed provides an efficient and timely response in respect of company raw materials, intermediate products, new make spirit, co products, effluent and water safety analyses.
- Laboratory Maintenance – to ensure that laboratory and other departmental equipment and instrumentation is appropriately serviced and maintained, and analyses are checked as robust using nationally recognised analyte proficiency schemes e.g., DAPS, MAPS. You will organise calibration of distillery operations instruments to meet business calibration standard and ensure all consumables, chemicals and laboratory materials are purchased with stock levels maintained to ensure continuity of service to the business.
- Documentation & Compliance – Undertake all laboratory analytical activities in a manner consistent with the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and Procedures, and the Laboratory Quality Management Systems. Prepare reports and advice reports from LIMS and ensure all sample results are reported accurately and on time. Accountable for the quantity and quality of personal output.
- Development & Continuous Improvement – to participate in continuous improvement projects by analysing and advising on non‑routine sampling requirements as well as supporting the development and verification of new analytical methods.
Your skills and background
- Are degree qualified in a relevant scientific discipline or have equivalent experience in an analytical laboratory.
- Have industry experience in a similar type of laboratory environment, with knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety practices applicable to a laboratory environment.
- Are proficient in the use and understanding of a number of the following techniques: sample and media preparation, microbiology and analytical instrumental techniques e.g., flow cytometry, nitrogen analysers, barley and malt analyses, effluent analysis, densitometry, HPLC etc and prepared to upskill to be competent in the remainder.
- Work with a high degree of accuracy and organisation.
- Have a high level of computer literacy and are experienced in the use of statistical analysis techniques.
- Hold a current valid UK driving licence.
