Chippindale Plant is one of the largest plant hire and sales companies operating out of 8 depots, in the North of England and we are currently seeking a new depot manager for our York depot. We provide a complete hire and sales service for a wide range of construction equipment, tools excavator attachments and secure portable accommodation. The company is part of the AER Rents Group who are on course to become the largest independent rental group in the UK

This depot manager role combines responsibility of managing the operations of a long-established plant and tool hire depot as well as site visits to existing and potential customers.

Based at York the depot services an area that covers North and East Yorkshire including Humberside. Our trade is predominantly B2B with companies ranging from sole traders to national civil engineers, but we also deal with consumers.

The Key responsibilities for the depot manager role are;

  • Focus on developing new business with a broad spectrum of customers.
  • Expand business opportunities with existing key account customers.
  • Oversee the efficient running of the Depot, comprising 7 staff and ensure it is running

effectively and profitably.

The candidate must

  • Have at least five years experience working in the construction equipment hire industry
  • Be an experienced sales professional who has strong negotiation, relationship, and man management skills.
  • Be highly motivated, self-reliant and capable of making difficult decisions under pressure. This includes taking ownership of problems until they are resolved and going that extra mile to ensure the customer is happy.
  • Understand the depot cost base and what is required to run a profitable operation.
  • Show that they have a common-sense approach to operational management, setting high standards and expectations from their staff.
  • Have a strong approach to depot health and safety
  • Can manage a fully complaint transport fleet
  • Full understanding of hire management information systems and be IT literate
  • Due to the geography of the area live within a 60 minute drive from the York depot.
  • Have a full driving licence.
