We are looking for a very talented and dedicated Backend QA Engineer to help us build out a world-beating feature set. Joining our engineering team, you’ll be responsible for testing new front-end, rest-api backend features and microservices manually; as required and identified at the planning sessions to help us continue to deliver a great product to our customers which helps our company and their money grow.

What you can expect to be doing:

  • Collaborating with a cross-functional team: Work closely with Backend and Frontend Engineers, developers, and other specialists to maintain a quality-first mindset.
  • Defining and executing test strategies: Identify test scenarios, create detailed test cases, and document results effectively.
  • Championing quality: Be the QA evangelist, promoting best practices within and beyond your team.
  • Driving test automation: Contribute to a shift-left approach by building automation journeys using an OOP-based framework.
  • Exploring performance testing: Learn and develop performance testing strategies to ensure system efficiency.
  • Owning test estimation & reporting: Accurately estimate testing efforts, track progress, report status, and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Enhancing CI/CD visibility: Integrate automated tests into CI tooling (GitLab) and generate reports for better visibility.
  • Managing defects proactively: Document software faults and work closely with developers until release readiness.
  • Executing manual testing: Perform detailed exploratory and functional manual testing using industry-standard techniques.

What we’re looking for:

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in backend QA testing, with a strong focus on automation, and troubleshooting to deliver high-quality results.
  • Proven experience in testing and automating APIs, integrations, and system behaviour in both microservices and monolithic architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of at least one programming language, preferably JavaScript or TypeScript, with the ability to create efficient and effective automation tests.
  • Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, integrating automated tests into workflows, and managing deployments.
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks such as feature tickets, automation, technical tasks, and maintenance, while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Deep understanding of testing methodologies, automation strategies, and defect management. Proactive in identifying issues and ensuring the end goals are met. Willing to speak up and advocate for quality.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in both the application and test environments efficiently.
  • Basic knowledge or experience in performance testing and understanding performance bottlenecks.
  • Experience in testing mobile applications on both iOS and Android platforms.

What we’re really looking for:

Someone with a genuine interest in Chip and is excited about being part of a fast-growing company and our mission to build the investment super app of the future. Although we’re in the financial space, and under the scrutiny that comes with it, the current engineering team works well together, and even sometimes with a smile. We’re sure you’ve got the technical skills, otherwise, you would have stopped reading by now, so let us be clear on what will make us want to work with you. We want a real person, with interests outside of work, to join our team. You could be a dancer, a gamer, a musician, a parent, a hockey fan, or even that one person that still writes Twilight fan-fiction. Doesn’t matter to us. At the interview stages, we will be looking for empathy, eq, fun stories, and the ability to smile even when things are tough.
