We offer premium accommodation, fitness and leisure facilities, golf, dining, spa services, and exceptional wedding, conference, and events venues.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Independent Non-Executive Director (NED) to provide independent, strategic oversight and governance to the Board of the China Fleet Country Club. Supporting the board in delivering the organisation's objectives and unwavering commitment to lead China Fleet Country Club as a premier hospitality and leisure destination. Delivering outstanding member and guest experiences while channelling our success into meaningful charitable outreach. This is achieved in close partnership with China Fleet Trust, ensuring our core beneficiaries, serving, reservist, and retired Royal Navy and Royal Marines members and their families remain at the heart of everything we do.
The NED will bring critical thinking to challenge assumptions, support existing board members in their decision-making, and contribute to the ongoing development of the board's collective skills and capabilities.
Commitment: Approximately 6 board meetings per year, plus preparation and occasional strategic involvement totalling 6 days a year.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold high standards of governance, ensuring compliance, ethical conduct, and effective risk oversight.
- Review organisational performance against strategic goals, financial targets, and KPIs; provide constructive scrutiny and feedback.
- Influence strategy and actively support existing board members by applying sharp analytical and critical thinking skills to enhance discussions and decisions.
- Contribute to developing the board's skill set, including sharing expertise, mentoring where appropriate, and promoting continuous improvement in board effectiveness.
- Attend and fully participate in at least 6 board meetings annually, with thorough preparation and follow-up.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Sector Knowledge (strong expertise in at least one of the following):
- Strategic Financial Support: regulatory environment, financial services, lending, and market trends.
- Renewable Energy: sustainable technologies, policy, investment, and sector dynamics.
- Asset/Estate Management: portfolio oversight, valuation, optimisation, and sustainable asset strategies.
Legal and Compliance
- Independent oversight on emerging UK regulatory reforms, governance codes, and compliance risks as a strategic sounding board.
Change & Transformation Management
- Guide organisational change, cultural transformation, and efficiency improvements.
Technical/Secondary Expertise (at least one required):
- Risk Management: identification, assessment, and mitigation across enterprise risks.
- Financial Management: budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and financial oversight.
- Project Management: planning, executing, and overseeing projects.
- Digital Transformation: technology adoption, data-driven decision-making, and innovation.
Board-Level Experience:
- Proven experience at board level (ideally in a non-executive capacity), demonstrating fiduciary responsibility, strategic contribution, and constructive challenge.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to support board deliberations and development.

This is a part-time, non-executive appointment focused on adding strategic value through expertise, oversight, and board enhancement. Previous experience/exposure within the hospitality or leisure sector is desirable. This position is scheduled to commence at the end of April.
Remuneration: £400 per day plus Health Club Membership.
